This tour is designed for those who want to experience Matera in greater depth, with plenty of time to observe, listen, and be amazed. Aboard the Ape Calessino, we’ll explore the city’s two oldest neighborhoods: Sasso Barisano and Sasso Caveoso, accompanied by Vito’s passionate narration.

After an initial exploration of the historic center, we’ll head into the Sassi, passing winding alleys, ancient stone dwellings, and breathtaking views of the Gravina. We’ll make a scenic stop near the Cathedral, and along the way, we’ll admire the Church of Sant’Agostino, the splendid Piazza San Pietro Caveoso, and several glimpses that seem suspended in time.

Where does the tour start from?

The starting point is usually at Via del Corso 78, at the main entrance of BPER Banca. Upon request, we can pick you up at an accessible location in the historic center of your choice.

Where can we leave the car?

Here are the recommended parking lots, in order of proximity:

How can I pay?

We accept cards, cash, and, in exceptional cases, also cured meats and cheeses. In some cases, we may require a deposit to confirm your reservation.

What happens if I need to cancel my reservation?

Out of mutual respect, we do not charge penalties if cancellations are communicated promptly. Reservations with a deposit paid are an exception, for which specific conditions apply.
