The Sassi Maxi tour is the perfect choice for those who want to discover Matera in a complete, relaxed and personalized way. In two hours of exploration, aboard the Ape Calessino driven by Vito, we will cross not only the most famous streets but also hidden corners, to live an authentic experience full of surprises.

We will visit a typical cave house in Sasso Barisano, an emblematic example of a peasant dwelling dug into the rock, and a rock church — usually San Pietro Barisano — evidence of the deep spirituality that permeates these places. The route also includes some of the most iconic squares of the city, such as Piazza Duomo and Piazza San Pietro Caveoso, where we can stop to admire the views and take some photos.

Along the way we will pass through the three historic districts of the city — Civita, Sasso Barisano and Sasso Caveoso — stopping at the most suggestive panoramic points. We can also adapt the route based on your preferences, to discover artisan workshops, hidden views or simply enjoy the landscape.

The tour is also a journey behind the scenes of cinema: we will walk among the places made famous by films such as Il Vangelo secondo Matteo di Pasolini, The Passion by Mel Gibson, No Time to Die by James Bond and the very popular Italian series Imma Tataranni.

The starting point is usually in Via del Corso 78, at the main entrance of BPER Banca. Upon request, we can pick you up at an accessible point in the historic center indicated by you.

Here are the recommended parking lots, in order of proximity:

  • Parking “Lucana” – Via Pasquale Vena 8

  • Sant’Isidoro car park – Via Lanera 16

  • Via Lucana – Blue lines (on-street parking)

The price may vary based on specific factors (time, duration, customized requests) that are not always calculable in the initial request phase.

We accept card, cash and, in exceptional cases, also cold cuts and cheeses… In some cases, we may ask for a deposit to confirm the reservation.

Out of mutual respect, we do not apply penalties if the cancellation is communicated promptly. Exceptions are made for reservations with a deposit paid, for which specific conditions apply.

There are no hard and fast limits, but the earlier you book, the easier it is to find the perfect time.
